What can I expect on my first visit?
When an appointment is made, usually by telephone the administration staff will take down the necessary details and indicate which physiotherapist will be in charge of the treatment. A reassuring warm and friendly welcome is guaranteed. One of our Senior Physiotherapists will then take over the care. Following a thorough examination, both by questioning the history of the problem and by palpating the site, a diagnosis will be discussed and then appropriate treatment given.
Do I need to see my doctor before coming?
It is not a requirement that the General Practitioner refers for treatment but unless the patient specifically requests otherwise they will be advised by letter of the attendance.
What facilities do you have?
Private treatment rooms, reception and toilets. A small gymnasium where individual and group sessions are held.
Where can I park?
Right outside the door... the spaces are marked as disabled which we consider to be for all patients.
How long is the first visit?
Dependant upon the condition an initial consultation lasts from 45 mins to 1 hour.
How long are follow-up treatments?
30 - 45 minutes.
What should I wear?
For spinal and lower limb problems shorts or stretchy trousers are appropriate. For upper limb a stretchy, loose sleeveless top.
How often will I require treatment?
It is difficult to generalise and it is very dependant on the diagnosis, however usually 3-4 sessions are sufficient particularly if treatment is commenced early.
How do I know my physiotherapist is fully qualified?
All of our physiotherapists have been qualified and working for a minium of 5 years post qualification. During that time many have developed particular areas of expertise i.e. spinal, acupuncture, sport injuries etc. The abbreviations you should look for are MCSP (Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) or FCSP (Fellow of the CSP) and HPC (registered with the Health Professions Council).
What happens if I'm not getting better?
If the physiotherapist feels that the problem needs some other investigation e.g. x-ray, orthopaedic referral, MRI scan, then appropriate action will be instigated. We are always in close communication with the doctor.
By which methods do you accept payment?
We accept payment by cash or cheque. At the moment we do not have the facility for card payment.
I have private medical insurance, am I covered?
Yes, we are recognised by all health insurance companies. However, it is important that you speak to your insurers before attending as they might require that you see your GP or there maybe a limit on the amount of funds available for physiotherapy.
